# Words to know

### Wallet

Your account on the blockchain, such as MetaMask or Rainbow. It holds your money and your NFTs, and you use it to approve every action.

### Gas

A small network fee you pay for each transaction. It goes to the network, not to Modularium.

### NFT / token

One piece of art on the blockchain. The record shows who owns it and what it is.

### Collection

A group of NFTs that belong together, like a series. Each collection is its own contract, and the contract belongs to you.

### 1/1 (ERC-721)

A one-of-a-kind NFT. There's exactly one, and it has one owner.

### Edition (ERC-1155)

An NFT that can have many identical copies, like prints of a photograph.

### Mint

To create a new copy of an NFT and put it in someone's wallet.

### Drop / public mint

An open window during which collectors can mint copies of your work themselves. See [Run a drop](/start/run-a-drop).

### Listing

Putting an NFT you own up for sale at a fixed price.

### Offer

A bid from a collector on your NFT, or on any NFT in a collection, which you can accept.

### Platform fee

Modularium's 2.5% cut of every sale, both drops and resales. It comes out of the seller's proceeds. See [What does it cost?](/start/faq#what-does-it-cost).

### Royalty

Your percentage of every resale. If someone resells your work on Modularium, you automatically get your cut.

### Requirements (recipe)

Extra conditions for minting, such as burning, freezing or holding other tokens. See [Mint requirements](/create/recipes).

### Burn

Destroying a token permanently.

### Freeze / thaw

Locking a token so it can't be moved for a while, then unlocking it once the time is up.

### Cement

Locking something permanently, such as an NFT's description and image. Once something is cemented, nobody can change it, not even you.

### IPFS

A shared, permanent file storage network. Your images and videos are stored there, and the blockchain points to them.

### Slug / username

The short name in a web address, like `modularium.art/collection/my-series` or `modularium.art/profile/me`.

### Roles

Permissions you can give collaborators on your collection: adding new pieces (Creator), minting more copies (Minter), and editing details (Editor).
