# Run a drop

A **drop**, also called a public mint, lets collectors make their own copy of your work straight from its page. You decide the price, how many copies there can be, and how long the drop stays open.

Drops work with **editions**, so you need an **ERC-1155** collection. If you don't have one yet, follow [Your first NFT](/start/first-nft) up to "Make a collection" and pick ERC-1155.

## Start a new piece

Go to [`/create`](https://sepolia.modularium.art/create), select your ERC-1155 collection, upload your art and give it a name.

## Decide how many copies exist

* **Initial Mint Amount**: how many copies go straight to you. Set it to `0` if you don't want any.
* **Max Supply**: the most copies that can ever exist. Tick **No Limit** for an open edition.

Leave room for collectors. If you keep the whole supply, there's nothing left to mint.

## Turn on "Open a Public Mint"

* **Mint Price**: what each copy costs. Use `0` for a free mint.
* **Mint Start / Mint End**: leave these blank to open now and never close, or pick dates.
* **Max Mints**: how many copies the drop can sell in total.
* **Max Per Wallet**: stops one person from minting everything. `0` means no limit.

## Create it

Click **CREATE NFT** and approve it in your wallet. Your piece and its drop go live together.

Collectors mint from the piece's page. Each time someone mints, the money goes straight to your wallet, minus a 2.5% [platform fee](/start/faq#what-does-it-cost).

## Make collectors work for it (optional)

Requirements let you go beyond "pay to mint". Under **Open a Public Mint**, click **+ ADD REQUIREMENT** to ask collectors to do one of these with tokens from another collection:

| Requirement | What the collector does | Example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Burn** | Gives up the token. It's destroyed forever. | "Burn 3 seeds to grow a flower." |
| **Freeze** | Locks the token for a set number of days. They keep it, but can't sell or move it until it thaws. | "Freeze your pass for 30 days to claim this piece." |
| **Hold** | Simply owns the token. Nothing happens to it. | "Holders of my first collection mint free." |

## Ending a drop early

Open your profile, go to the **\[DROPS]** tab and click **CANCEL**. Copies already minted stay with their owners.
